The Journey Back to Myself (And to You)
Five years ago, I took a deep breath, we hit publish, and I sent a piece of my heart out into the world.
When Lady and the Tribe: How to Create Empowering Friendship Circles was born, it wasn't

just a book project for me. It was a love letter to every woman who has ever looked around her life, surrounded by people she loves, and quietly wondered: Where did I go?
Today, as I look back on five incredible years of this message reaching women across the globe, I want to take you back to where it all began—because the story behind this book started in a very quiet, lonely place.
Losing the "Me" in the Routine
Years ago, I found myself deep in the thick of motherhood and daily life. My days were full, my calendar was packed, and on paper, everything was wonderful. I loved my family fiercely. I poured every ounce of my energy into being the best mom, partner, and caretaker I could possibly be.
But slowly, without me even noticing, a quiet shift happened.
I stopped being Brenda. I became the driver, the schedule-keeper, the fixer, and the silent engine holding everything together. I shifted so completely into the roles I was playing that I lost touch with my own core desires, my passions, and my own voice.
Then came the day the house went quiet. As my children grew and needed me in different ways, the noise settled, and I was left standing in the silence asking a terrifying question: Who am I when nobody needs anything from me?
It was a heavy, bone-deep realization. But right alongside it came a second, even bigger revelation: I wasn't meant to figure this out alone.
The Missing Piece: The Power of the Tribe
When I looked honestly at my life, I realized what was missing. It wasn't another self-help routine, a new project, or a longer to-do list.
It was deep, meaningful, soul-nourishing female friendship.
I had casual acquaintances, sure. I had people I’d wave to at school events or chat with in passing. But I lacked a tribe—a circle of women who truly saw me, not just for the roles I played, but for who I was. I needed sisters who would cheer for my dreams, hold space for my messy middle, and remind me of who I was when I forgot.
So, I set out on a mission to build that circle. I learned how to invite intimacy, how to break through the surface-level "we should get coffee sometime" small talk, and how to cultivate fierce, unwavering loyalty in my relationships.
That journey saved me. It brought me back to life. And it became the exact blueprint I wrote down in Lady and the Tribe.
