Forget Resolutions: This Year, Proclaim Your Joy

As the calendar turns and we stand on the threshold of 2026, many of us feel that familiar pressure to "resolve." Usually, these resolutions sound like a list of chores or a penance: Stop eating sweets. Cut out soda. Wake up at 5:00 AM for the treadmill.

 

We start the year by focusing on what we want to take away or what difficult lifestyle changes we need to endure. While wanting to improve is admirable, is a "proclamation of deprivation" really the best way to start a new chapter?

 

The Reality of the Resolution

If you’ve ever set a New Year’s resolution only to have it fizzle out by Valentine’s Day, you

aren’t alone—you’re actually in the majority. Statistics show that roughly 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by the second week of February. Why? Because most resolutions are born from a place of "not enoughness." They are rooted in what we think we should do, rather than what our souls crave to do. I want to suggest a different path for 2026. What if this wasn't the time to "resolve," but the time to commit to expanding your own joy?

 

The Power of "More"

Instead of looking at what to cut out, look at what you want to invite in. What experiences do you want to savor? What people do you want to surround yourself with? How do you want to grow?

 

It doesn't have to be expensive, elaborate, or complicated.

 

Several years ago, I looked into my China cabinet and realized my beautiful, formal dinnerware was just sitting there, collecting dust between cleanings. I was saving it for "someday." That New Year, I made a proclamation to the universe: I am going to find more reasons to celebrate. I decided that the fine China was coming out.

 

That year, I used it six times simply by finding—or creating—reasons to celebrate the ordinary. It wasn't about the plates; it was about the joy of the occasion. It was about intentionally interrupting boring, everyday routines with moments of deep connection. By setting the table with the "good stuff," I was creating space for lasting memories with the people I care about most, signaling that our time together was worthy of celebration right now.

 

What Do You Want MORE of in 2026?

Take a moment to dream. This isn't about your age—whether you are 40 or 80, this is about your readiness for what's next. Think about your Soul.

 

❤️Do you want more slow mornings with a book you actually enjoy?

❤️Do you want more belly laughs with friends who make you feel seen?

❤️Do you want more sunsets, more trail walks, or more spontaneous coffee dates?

❤️Do you want more creative fire—painting, writing, or gardening?

 

Proclaim it! Tell the universe exactly what you want to experience this year!

 

Put Yourself on the Wish List

I know that for some of you, even the question "What do you want?" feels heavy. After years of focusing on everyone else’s needs, you might find yourself not actually knowing what sparks your joy anymore.

 

If that resonates with you, I invite you to put yourself on your own wish list. Maybe what you need is more personal growth. More time spent building deep, authentic friendships. More retreats and get-aways that allow you to exhale.
